27th Annual Herb & Garden Fair

The grounds of Poplar Grove will be filled with a wonderful  selection of locally grown plants of all types – herbs, perennials, annuals, hanging baskets, shrubs, native plants, vegetable starts and houseplants, plus garden art & accessories, herbal & all-natural products, artisan crafts & local foods. View the 2019 Herb & Garden Vendor List!

There is a $5.00 admission fee; kids 12 & under are free. Included in your admission price is live music by artist and musician, Mark Herbert from Broccoli Brother Circus and Stained Glass Canoe featuring Andrea Templon. There will be Kid’s Activities for the little ones, and free classes & nature trail walks (come see what is in bloom!) for young and young-at-heart throughout the two-day event.

Learn from your neighbors and some of the community’s best local historians, herbalists, and basket-makers! Our State magazine will be on site to distribute their special April issue. 

There will be Greek food samplings, wraps, seafood, hamburgers, hotdogs, smoothies, and baked goods available for purchase.

For the kids, The Stables at Poplar Grove will be open for tours (closed toes shoes required) from 10 am until 2 pm.  The entrance fee is $5.00 a person (young and old) as well as animal Meet & Greets on the back lawn. 

Self-guided house tours will be offered at a discounted rate of $7.00, though you are welcome to sit on our porches and visit our Gift Shop and Slavery Exhibit on the lower level of the Manor House for free. The blacksmith shop will also be fired up, so be sure to follow the billowing smoke & peek inside.

A Merry Little Christmas Arts, Crafts and Gift Show

victorian-christmas-presents-188x300For families near and far seeking a local outdoor shopping experience, including 100+ local and regional arts & crafts vendors with items to compliment hearth and home as well as unique items for stuffing those stockings, come out and join us for this special two-day event.

Everyone’s favorite kettle corn and shaved ice will be available, and as always food trucks from some of our local favorites, so bring the kids with you & romp around the specially decorated grounds and let the kids pick out something for grandma Sue, great-aunt Judy and dear old dad!

Admission is $5.00; children under 2 free. Inflatables will be on site, so Santa’s little helpers will have unlimited opportunity to bounce to their heart’s delight and try their hand at Professor Poplar’s Fantabulous Games & Amusements!

For those moms and dads, grandmoms and pops, and uncles and aunties interested in a little something special to sip as they browse, Wrightsville Beach Brewery and Noni Bacca Winery will be serving locally brewed and fermented beverages by the glass.

On Saturday, Mr. Twister from Universal Studios will be onsite to twist up balloons into magical shapes and from 11-11:45 a.m. a sing-a-long for the kids with Mark from the Broccoli Brothers.

The farm animals will be in full regalia and available for nose-rubbing and picture-taking, a General Store staged for campy family photo opportunities at the Stables as well as the a viewing of the movie, Elf!

Visit Santa’s Workshop for children both Naughty & Nice to write and post a letter to Santa, or for our soldiers abroad send a letter at our USO station, sponsored by retired Army Colonel John Moran.

Shhhhhh… we hear SANTA will be making an appearance on Saturday from 10 – noon &  2 – 4PM, and on Sunday from 1 – 3 p.m.

One of our favorite bands will be out each day for some foot-stomping honky-tonk and bluegrass! Folkstone Stringband will be playing from 2-4PM on Saturday and 1-3PM on Sunday at the Gazebo.

See if you can discover the one special room in the house decorated just for the kids. $7.00 for adults and teens; $3.00 for children under 12.

A Merry Little Christmas Arts, Crafts and Gift Show

victorian-christmas-presents-188x300For families near and far seeking a local outdoor shopping experience, including a variety of local Arts & Crafts, items to compliment hearth and home and unique items for stuffing those stockings as well as everyone’s favorite kettle corn and shaved ice, plenty of free parking, and a romping around the specially decorated grounds for your children to experience, come visit us the weekend of December 10th & 11th!

Admission is $5.00 for everyone 13 and older. Children 12 & under free. Admission includes entry onto grounds both days, a raffle ticket to deposit in front of a specially donated item from our talented vendors, and wagon rides through the Abbey Nature Preserve on the half-hour, but wait! that’s not all …

The farm animals will be in full regalia and available for nose-rubbing and picture-taking, a Wild West stage for campy family photo opportunities at the Stables and a live tree for the children to decorate as well as a mail box for posting those letters to Santa, or visit a Santa’s Workshop for children both Naughty & Nice, and a few of your neighbors and their friends and families over this two-day weekend.

children-sleighShhhhhh… we hear Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance at the Gazebo on Saturday from 10 a.m. – noon & 2 – 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 – 3 p.m.

For an additional experience, the Manor House will be open for self-guided tours – this is a daytime peek of the lovingly decorated eight rooms of the Manor House, each room featuring a live tree by theme and color for our evening Candlelight Tours. Boys and girls, see if you can discover the one special room in the house decorated just for you. $7.00 for adults and teens & $3.00 for children under 12.

Inflatables will be on site, and for a $5.00 wristband, Santa’s little helpers will have unlimited opportunity to bounce to their hearts delight!

On Saturday, stay past 5 p.m. for the lighting of the grounds – a spectacular sight! – roast marshmallows and watch a few of our favorite films: “A Christmas Story,” “Polar Express,” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” outdoors and under the stars.
